My Favorite Ways to Treat Myself

Hey guys! I have been super busy with work and life, but I am back with new ideas and things to share with you!

Since moving back to New York, I have moved in with my parents, therefore, I am not paying rent. Genius right?? I did this to save money, obviously, but that doesn’t mean I have to be a stickler with my cash or spending my money like I am the richest person in the world. Lately, I have been trying to find the balance between the two: Saving my money for the future while treating myself to little things I love.

There is a saying, “Life’s short, buy the shoes” and lately I have been trying to do this more. I don’t mean to say I am wasting every penny but the sentiment is true: life is short so we need to treat ourselves and enjoy it while we are here! Here is a list of some ways I like to treat myself:

1- Buy a cute little accessory!

This cute little scarf just makes me so happy for some reason. It’s such a great floral that mixes both feminine and masculine styles effortlessly. You can use it as a pocket square in your sport coat or tie it around your neck at a music festival. 🙂

2- Have a movie night!

I loveee watching movies. Recently I have been getting into classic movies like Wait Until Dark and Hitchcock films. Nothing makes me happier than having a friend over for some wine and putting on a movie I am really excited about.

3- Treat yourself to a new scent!

I bought this Rag and Bone fragrance about a month ago and I am so obsessed with it. I have never been much of a ‘cologne guy’ but after smelling this, I felt like it perfectly represented how I wanted to be seen in the world. It is understated and bold and described by Rag and Bone as smelling like a summer in Italy. 🙂

4- See a last minute Broadway show!

I have a background in theater and since graduating school 3 years ago, I kind of hid that part of myself as my career shifted towards fashion. Recently I started seeing live shows again and forgot how amazing they are. If you live in New York, I definitely recommend taking advantage of this and downloading the app Today Tix!

5- Cook an awesome dinner!

Over the past 6 months, I have really found a love of cooking, which surprised me because I thought I would let my parents do all the cooking. However, I have found inspiration in my parents well stocked refrigerator to cook a variety of fun recipes. I found the website and I am in love with everything I made from it! I love her soups and my favorite so far have been the Creamy Coconut Quinoa and Vegan Potato Leek.

6- Read something just for fun!

I know it can be so much easier to just whip out your phone and scroll mindlessly through instagram but reading is such a treat if you find the right book. My favorite genres are thrillers and page turners which I am trying to broaden, but can’t get enough of! I just read the Woman in the Window and loved every bit of it. That’s actually what made me so interested in old Hollywood films. 🙂

7- Buy a designer bag!

If it’s not your thing, I totally get it! I was never really into designer pieces until recently. For some, it can be a big investment but if you really want it- it is totally worth saving for. I got this Gucci backpack in December and before I bought it, I considered how often I’d use it, where I could get it the cheapest, and if I was going to really love it forever. The answer to everything was yes. 🙂

8- Treat yourself to new sunnies!

I have been collecting sunglasses since high school and I have bought almost every shape and color. I personally love high quality sunglasses, but know that the chances of losing or breaking them are highly likely. So even though I may never buy these $585 glasses from Oliver People’s, they sure are fun to dream about.

8- Bring lunch to work 4 days a week and treat yourself on Fridays!

I work in Midtown Manhattan where the restaurants are catered to quick, expensive salads and sandwiches. It is super easy and tempting to pick any of the hundreds of options I have outside my office, but doesn’t make much sense financially. Instead, bring a lunch every day and treat yourself on Fridays so it’s special. 🙂

9- Buy Art!

About 2 years ago I stumbled upon an artist that I fell in love with on instagram. Her name is @kendallkyra and she is the greatest. She posts videos of her making the paintings that are so relaxing and fun to watch! I always thought the idea of buying art sounded so fancy and I wasn’t at that place financially in my life yet to start building my collection. Her paintings are all around $150 and definitely worth the price. I bought 3 of them and they spark so much joy every time I look at them. 🙂

10- Take a drive to a new town and check out it’s antique stores!

Antiquing is in my blood and nothing makes me happier than getting in the car with my friends or family and spending the day driving to a new town to check out it’s local antique stores. For me, it literally feels like finding treasure when I connect with a piece I love. <3

It was so much fun writing this one. As I wrote each one down, I actually felt happy and inspired thinking about them! Treating yourself doesn’t *always* have to be something superficial and can be as simple as going for a walk and getting a cup of coffee. I recently wrote a list on my phone of all the things that make me happy and I highly suggest you do it as well. Every time I am having a rough day or feel uninspired, I look at the list and feel full again. Hope this post gave you some good ideas on how you too can treat yourself! 🙂
