Something that I’ve been playing around with as we make our way into the new season is having a “spring color.”

In case you haven’t heard- blush and desert hues are the new neutral.  I am a huge fan of neutrals but recently I’ve started adding statement colors like mustard into my wardrobe. 😉 When I was originally putting together this look, I was afraid that I’d look like the star of Bee Movie but since the yellow isn’t that vibrant, it doesn’t scream BEE!

With statement colors, it’s all about subtleness.  A pop of color here and there goes a long way…I bought these retro sunglasses on St. Marks Place in NYC last summer and I adore them.

If you’ve never been to St. Marks Place in New York City- it is a must (if you are underage and want a piercing or tattoo, sketchy karaoke, $1 pizza that gives you food poisoning or cute retro sunglasses!)

I stand very firm on being anti fake anything.  Whether it be bags, fur or sunglasses- real is always the way to go.  However, when it comes to trendy pieces like this- there is no reason to spend $$$ on them. I got these Comme des Garcons ‘PLAY’ Converse for Christmas and love them.  As I’ve mentioned in previous posts- I have an obsession with Chuck Taylor’s.

Since today’s post is all about the subtleness of statement pieces, these are the perfect example of how to add some fun to a neutral outfit.  Without coming off clown-ish, the heart icon adds character and “PLAY-fulness”  (no pun intended 😉 )  I usually only wear soft skinny Levi’s but I was on the hunt for a darker, tougher denim when I found this pair at GAP.

“Raw Denim” is unwashed denim fabric that hasn’t been shrunk or exposed to water after the dying process.  Although it’s usually more expensive than regular denim- it’s more durable and will last longer.

I wanted to find a pair of jeans that represented the grittiness that denim once symbolized.  Denim used to be the badge of the rebel, the man who broke from the traditional dress of society and rejected the old way of doing things. This is the perfect transition look from day to night.  Stripes are very in this year and by taking off the hat and sunglasses & messing up my hair a bit- I’d be all set for a concert or bar.  Which is perfect for those Saturday brunches that go right into the night time.. 😉

Ciao for now,

Dean

  2. An interesting dialogue is worth comment. I feel that you must write more on this topic, it won’t be a taboo subject but typically people are not sufficient to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers kbefkgebcgkgkdeb
