For my first post on The Dean’s List I thought I would post a more classic casual look.  Being the avid shopper I am, I noticed how in the past two seasons black and tan have really made an impact in the men’s fashion industry.  And why wouldn’t it?  The pair go SO well together!  When I originally thought of doing a tan and black combo I came up with about six different outfit ideas in my head.  You can do a tan peacoat with a black turtle neck, a tan turtleneck and black over coat, even khaki’s with an oversized black sweater would look dope AF.  The possibilities with this color palette are endless.

I’ve recently dabbled in what my co worker described as the “IKEA” of clothes, UNIQLO.  This store can be overbearing and have you running out the door BUT if you are patient and go at a not so busy time, you may like what you see.  I found this really cool black cable knit sweater for $39.00. What I like about UNIQLO is that they sell clothes in XS.  This is awesome because if I wear baggy garments, I look like I weigh 70 pounds…not in a good way.  Especially for dress clothes, everything on men should fit a little bit more snug than usual.

This jacket actually came from my boss at American Apparel when I was in high school.  I told him how much I loved it and he agreed to sell it for me for $40.00.  The only problem is he bought it online and it has no label!

There are so many great pea coats out there that will give the same effect that this coat gave to my outfit but what I love about this one is how cropped it is.  Being a shorter guy- you want to do everything you can to make yourself appear taller.  If I went with a more traditional pea coat down to about where my knees are, I would look like two children sitting on each other’s shoulders.

For the pants I had a little fun and went with a waxed denim from Topman.  These always add character to an outfit so I only whip them out when I am “feeling myself”  as Beyonce once stated.

The final thing I’ll say about this outfit is if you are going for the tan and black color palette, there is no need for a third color.  The pair go so well together on their own that if you threw in one more, it would throw off the balance.  Now that being said- I will say that a pattern like leopard or poka dots wouldn’t hurt anybody 😉
